Information Search Librarian

(Ref No: CS/IRD/InfoSearLib/P7/June2011/bx-2)

 

                                                                                    

The purpose of this position is to provide a search service relating to Information Resources required for teaching, research, course development and assignments.

 

Requirements:

 

·         4 year degree from a University or Technikon in Library or Information Science

·         Honours degree in Library Science or equivalent qualifications

·         Subject experience in the sciences, foreign languages, theology and computer science

·         3 years experience of which 1 must be in a tertiary Library environment

·         Advanced knowledge and understanding of search methodologies including  indexing, boolean operators, search fields, etc

·         Knowledge and understanding of the principles of various types of search software / information databases

·         Knowledge and understanding of reference techniques and reference management for various media

·         Knowledge and understanding of the use of reference sources (printed & electronic)

·         Knowledge of specialised subject matter and / or experience across one or two subjects

·         Knowledge and understanding of various delivery channels

·         Knowledge and understanding of Library services rules

Recommendations

 

·         Membership of LIASA

·         Subject reference experience in e.g. chemistry & physics

 

Duties:

 

·         Respond to search requests

·         Provide a current awareness services

·         Educate clients towards unmediated service and self-sufficiency by inclusion of educational materials, notices etc.

·         Provide input to Library rules and policies

 

 

 

Assumption of duty:    As soon as possible.

Salary:                         Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
