MANAGER: NETWORK SECURITY

(Ref ICT Infra/Man:Netw & Sec/P6/June11/st-4)

 

The purpose of this position is to:

 

ü effectively and efficiently plan, lead, organise, oversee and review the security infrastructure of the network and network elements in order to protect the information and systems of the university

ü develop and implement a network security policy which will guide the management of the network security infrastructure

ü develop and maintain policies, procedures and practices which will give effect to the regulatory and governance requirements for the protection of information

ü develop and implement plans to apply the necessary patches and upgrades to ensure that the network is adequately protected at all times

ü identify and report on unmitigated threats to the security of the network

ü identify, contain and report on incidents which compromise the network or in which the network has been compromised

ü acquire and maintain the expertise required to support the deployed infrastructure technologies and practices in order to ensure that service levels and quality are maintained at acceptable levels.

ü work with bandwidth providers and ISP’s to correctly position security services

ü select, acquire, deploy and manage tools which will monitor the health of the security management of the network

ü ensure that the network security tools and processes have minimal negative impact on the user experience of the network.

Requirements

·         Relevant three-year Tertiary qualification, preferably in IT

·         Five years relevant technical and network related experience

·         Extensive knowledge of ICT security trends

·         Proficient in English

·         Knowledge of the latest communication technologies and infrastructure trends

·         Knowledge of budget and resource planning

·         Must have strong strategy formulation and negotiation skills

·         Must have good problem-solving skills  with the ability to diffuse conflict

·         Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

 

Recommendations

·         Experience in a Tertiary environment

 

Duties 

·         Establish  a planning process for the review for the usage, performance and capacity of ICT resources

·         Regularly review  and conduct capacity forecasting of ICT resources to determine  if sufficient capacity  and performance exists and to ensure that the risk of service disruptions due to insufficient capacity  or performance degradation is minimised

·         Ensure that the required capacity and performance is provided taking into consideration aspects such as normal workloads, contingencies, storage requirements and ICT resource life cycles

·         Continuously monitor  the usage, performance and capacity of ICT resources for the purpose of ensuring optimal performance and reporting on usage of the ICT resources

 

     Assumption of duty : As soon as possible.    

Salary                           : Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
