MANAGER: INTERNET AND COLLABORATION SERVICES

(Ref ICT Infra/Man: Internet & Collab Serv/P6/June11/st-5)

 

This position is in support of the Open Distance Learning environment (ODL) and the purpose is to effectively and efficiently:

 

ü  plan, organise and lead the functioning and overall operations of the section in order to ensure the stable operation of the infrastructure used by knowledge workers to collaboratively develop and distribute documents and other artefacts;

ü  plan, organise and lead the functioning and overall operations of the section in order to ensure the stable operation of an internet environment including domain name mapping and internet solution provider engagement;

ü  plan, organise and lead the review the functioning and overall operation of the infrastructure which allows for  the capture, management, storage, collaborative use and delivery of the university’s documents electronically;

ü  develop and implement short and long-term  strategies and projects to ensure internet and collaboration capacity meets existing and future requirements;

ü  develop an understanding of the internet and collaboration tools and practices to ensure that the university’s internet and collaboration environment reflects the latest technologies;

ü  ensure that the internet and collaboration infrastructure performs in accordance with agreed service levels;

ü  manage the key performance areas and operations of individuals, divisions and sections;

 

ü  acquire and maintain the expertise required to support the deployed internet and collaboration technologies and practices in order to ensure that service levels and quality are maintained at acceptable levels.

Requirements

·         Relevant three-year Tertiary qualification

·         Three years managerial, technical experience in internet and collaboration technologies

·         Knowledge of HTTP/IP, HTML and XML

·         Knowledge and application of programming languages, i.e. Perl

·         Knowledge of the Apache web server / Internet Information Services

·         Knowledge  of inter-related database technologies: Oracle/MySQL/SQL Server

·         Knowledge of latest infrastructure and technology trends related to the internet and web services

·         Proficient in English

·         Knowledge of budget and resource planning as well as be result-orientated

·         Must have strong organizational, planning, negotiation and decision-making skills

·         Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)

 

Recommendations

·         Experience in a Tertiary environment

 

Duties 

·         Develop and implement short and long-term plans to ensure that the internet and collaboration environments meet existing and future needs

·         Monitor and manage the capacity of the internet and collaboration infrastructure

·         Monitor and manage the operations of the internet and collaboration infrastructure to ensure that it meets agreed service levels.

·         Provide input to other ICT sections and the university in motivating and compelling the use of internet and collaboration technologies

 

     Assumption of duty : As soon as possible.    

Salary                           : Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
