EQUIPMENT INSTALLER

To ensure that the supply and installation of audio visual facilities are available, clean and in working order at any given time.

Requirements:

· Grade 12

· Code 8 Drivers License

· At least three years’ experience in operation of and installation of technical audio visual equipment

· Proficiency in English

· Good customer relations

· Abilities required

o To work under pressure

o To work in a team, as well as independently

o To work accurately

Duties:

• The purpose of this job is to ensure that the supply and installation of audio visual facilities are available, clean and in working order at any given time
• Collect AV equipment needed for events from stores and ensure that it is in good working order
• Transport equipment to the respective internal and external venues e.g. examination centres, graduation ceremonies
• Assemble the audio visual equipment and position it to fit the venue environment
• Demonstrate the functions of the temporary or permanently installed equipment in the presence of the user and ensure that they can handle the equipment independently
• Operate sound systems and set lights to the acceptable level
• Focus lights in main auditorium
• Provide an audible sound to the audience in the venue
• Liaise with the Electro/Mechanical Technicians to ensure that air conditioning, lights and power points are in good working order
• Collect and check if equipment is in good working order after the event
• Clean the equipment with its specific cleaning material
• Repair minor faults on equipment e.g. faulty cables of overhead projectors and book equipment for repair of major faults
• Take stock of the available equipment at the audiovisual store and keep record thereof
• Take stock of hardware and permanent installations
• Perform any ad hoc activities related to provision of audio visual services at e.g. conferences, concerts
• Ensure that accurate administration is done of all equipment
• Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety regulations at all times

This position will be filled to give effect to the employment equity plan of the Department of University Estates.

Assumption of duty : As soon as possible.

Salary : Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
