ASSISTANT MANAGER (ELECTRO/MECHANICAL)

To plan, organise, manage, control and review the day-to-day operations of personnel and activities in the Electro/Mechanical section, as well as to oversee operations of consultants and outside contractors.

 

Requirements:

·         National N5 qualification

·         Professional Electrician diploma or equivalent

·         Wiring Certificate

·         Certificate or Diploma in Management

·         At least five years’ managerial experience in electrical, air-conditioning, plumbing and mechanical operations

·         Experience in Project management

·         Computer literate (MSWord, Excel)

·         Excellent written and verbal English communication skills

·         Abilities required

o    To work under pressure

o    To work in a team, as well as independently

o    To work accurately

 

Duties:

·            The purpose of the job is to plan, organise, manage, control and review the day-to-day operations of personnel and activities in the Electro/Mechanical section, as well as to oversee operations of consultants and outside contractors

·            To this effect, some of the duties of this position include:

·            Plan and manage the operation of HT electrical cabling and switch gear, as well as LT electrical reticulation of wires and circuit protection devices

·            Plan and manage the operation of lights, sockets, outlets, clean power,  uninterrupted power, fire water reticulation, domestic water pump stations, drinking fountains and pipe distribution

·            Plan and manage the operation of chemical treatment of the water used in the air-conditioning systems, as well as all electricity driven machines, devices and appliances on campus

·            Plan and manage the operation of all air-conditioning systems, as well as all pipes, plumbing and sewerage systems

·            Be on 24 hour standby for call-out and be in direct communication with Unisa’s Security Department and the Department Head in the event of breakdowns, malfunctioning machines, electrical blackouts and disasters caused by man and nature e.g.  fire and flood

·            Ensure that Unisa staff are able to work in safe and comfortable office environments by ensuring that the integrity of the building structures are in no way compromised and that heating, cooling and ventilation systems comply with the World Health Organisation standards

·            Act as the competent person in terms of the Machinery and Occupational Safety Act (1983) (Department of Labour) during he absence of the engineer responsible for this task

·            Actively partake in the Department’s budget process by planning budget requirements for the next financial period

·            Manage and control staff regarding job cards, leave, overtime, sick leave and disciplinary measures

·            Conduct monthly meetings with the elevator service providers

 

This position will be filled to give effect to the employment equity plan of the Department of University Estates.

 

Assumption of duty      : As soon as possible.

Salary                          : Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
