CAREER COUNSELLING INTERNSHIP (6 posts)

6 MONTHS FIXED-TERM CONTRACT

 (SUNNYSIDE CAMPUS - ES.kia Mphahlele Building)

The DCCAD wishes to appoint interns for six months on a fixed term contract from 1 July 2011 at the Sunnyside Campus to fulfil the requirements for registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as Registered Counsellors in the category of Career Counselling and to assist with the counselling function of the Directorate.

Applicants are required to indicate in detail on their application forms or CV’s to what extent their qualifications and experience meet the requirements of the position as set out below.

Requirements

• A Completed BPsych or BPsych equivalent qualification (Honours in Psychology) or Honours in Industrial Psychology
• A certified print-out must be provided of the papers that have been passed for the Honours degree
• The following papers should be included in your curriculum for the honours degree in Psychology:

ü Research Methodology

ü Psychopathology

ü Psychological Assessment

ü Therapeutic Psychology

• The following papers should be included in your curriculum for the honours degree in Industrial Psychology:

ü Personnel and Career Psychology

ü Management and Organisational Psychology

ü Research Methodology

ü Industrial Psychological Evaluation

ü Employee and Organisational Wellness

• Proficiency in writing and speaking English, as well as good communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Computer literacy (Internet Explorer, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook )
• Problem solving skills with experience in a counselling environment

Recommendations

• Participation in the Peer Helper Programme at Unisa
• Knowledge of the academic offerings and organisational structure of Unisa

Duties under the supervision of a registered psychologist

• Provide information about the offerings of Unisa to prospective and registered students
• Provide career guidance and counselling to prospective and registered students
• Administer appropriate psychometric tests
• Counsel prospective and registered students with regard to choice of career, qualification and subjects(face-to –face, electronic, telephonic or mail/fax)
• Render office administrative duties such as writing of reports and statistics as required on a weekly, monthly and quarterly basis
• Study the prescribed work as recommended by the Directorate in line with the HPCSA requirements.
• Pro-active involvement in community career projects  

Assumption of duty:     01 July 2011

Salary:                         R133, 566.00 per annum (all inclusive)
